Mistral AI enters Le Chat

  • Superlogic raises $13.7M to reshape reward points: The fintech startup just secured a $13.7M round at a $200M valuation to tackle an overlooked problem—unused reward points. Superlogic wants to turn loyalty points into real currency for high-end experiences like concerts, travel, and collectibles. If Superlogic succeeds, it could push credit card issuers, airlines, and banks to rethink how reward systems work. With consumer fintech facing pressure, finding new ways to unlock existing value is a compelling angle.

  • Waymo Ubers are coming to Austin: Uber has opened an interest list for riders in Austin who want to try Waymo’s robotaxis, another expansion of its autonomous vehicle strategy. Once live, Waymo’s driverless Jaguar I-Pace EVs will operate across 37 square miles—exclusively through the Uber app. While Uber’s AV push has been slower than some expected, but this could speed things up quite a bit. Austin’s open AV policies make it an ideal testing ground, and if successful, this could set the stage for a wider rollout.

  • Gemini considers IPO: The Winklevoss twins’ crypto exchange is reportedly exploring a public listing, testing investor sentiment in the post-ETF Bitcoin boom. With Coinbase as the benchmark for crypto IPOs, Gemini’s path could be more complicated—regulatory scrutiny and past issues with its Earn program could factor into investor confidence. However, with crypto markets on the upswing and institutional adoption growing, a Gemini IPO would be a significant signal of whether public markets are warming back up to crypto-native companies.

TWiST500

Today in TWiST500 news… Mistral, the Nvidia-backed French startup, has launched Le Chat—a mobile app for iOS and Android alongside an enterprise-tier version for businesses. The company is positioning itself as an alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and DeepSeek’s rapidly growing presence.

Le Chat’s most notable feature is its speed—Mistral claims it can generate “flash answers” up to 1,000 words per second, making it one of the fastest AI assistants available. But beyond performance, its self-hosting capabilities set it apart. Unlike OpenAI and DeepSeek, which keep AI models within their own ecosystems, Mistral allows enterprises to deploy Le Chat on private infrastructure, SaaS, or virtual private cloud (VPC).

With DeepSeek’s rise sparking data security concerns due to its ties to China and OpenAI’s enterprise pricing still steep for some, Mistral may have an opening. In industries like finance, healthcare, and government—where data security is paramount—keeping AI models in-house rather than relying on external cloud providers could be big. It also puts Mistral in a good position to capitalize on growing DeepSeek concerns.

But speed and privacy alone won’t make Mistral a winner. The real test is whether Le Chat can crack the consumer market. ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and Gemini are already dominating App Store rankings. If Mistral wants to compete at scale—it’ll need user adoption.

Still, Le Chat’s launch underscores a key theme in AI—there’s room for challengers. As OpenAI, DeepSeek, and Google carve up the market, Mistral is showing that there are still opportunities to enter Le Chat. — Maddie
