Perplexity's Aravind Srinivas and Surge AI's Edwin Chen Join This Week in AI

This Week in AI Roundtable

This week Jason sat down with Aravind Srinivas, co-founder and CEO of Perplexity AI, and Edwin Chen, founder and CEO of Surge AI, the company training the frontier models for OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and others.

Aravind makes the case that Apple is the most underrated AI company in the world right now, and that the new CEO John Turnus is perfectly positioned to capitalize off of Apple Silicon for local agents. He also shared how Perplexity is using both Claude Code and Codex internally, and why the coding race is far from over.

Edwin explained why Surge has never raised, and how this helped him hit $1.2B in revenue. His perspective is that when AI companies optimize for growth metrics instead of actual intelligence it can hurt the real innovation.

We also got into LLM commoditization, the problem with AI benchmarks, and what AI tools the group is obsessing over right now.
